38. A disruptive e-waste collection engine
Online markets have grown exponentially over the last years, matching supply and demand in a fresh, new and exciting way. Well designed marketplaces not only increase market dynamism and user accesibility but also reduce transaction costs substantially.
In order to energize the collection of e-waste, Recupel, a Belgian non-profit association responsible for organizing the collection and processing of discarded electr(on)ic appliances and light bulbs, is creating an online “e-waste collection engine”.
The engine will - as a first step - connect a currently unserved market of SMEs, looking for ways to dispose of their e-waste with minimal effort, at minimal cost and with licensed operators, by use of a basic auction mechanism.
It is believed the “engine” will also drive much broader adoption curves...
