32. Unlocking the potential of urban resources through new use of urban spaces
Over the past few decades, many cities have experimented with finding temporary uses for abandoned or neglected spaces and buildings. Combining this trend with the need for better resource management at local level can be a powerful tool in turning up the speed of the cities’ transition to a circular economy.
The objective of this workshop is to discuss the concept Urban Resource centres, the new generation of recycling stations and how to combine temporary use with the power of public-private partnership, social innovation and citizens’ engagement to create new spaces for more circular resource management.
The workshop will focus on three aspects:
- How to utilize underused buildings and spaces in cities and using it as a driver for a circular transition
- Innovation and experimentation as a tool to enable circular business models at local level
- How to work with citizen participation and co-creation to stimulate for a Circular Economy
