Mrs. Joke Schauvliege, Flemish Minister for the Environment, Nature and Agriculture
Joke Schauvliege obtained a Master’s degree in Law at the University of Ghent (1993) and a Certificate of Environmental Law and Environmental Remediation Law (1995). She started her career as a lawyer (1993-2004), legal advisor at the Ministry of Justice (1995-1996) and advisor of Minister of Justice Tony Van Parys (1998-1999). In 1994 she was elected the youngest councilor in Evergem, a function she still observes to this day. From 1999 to 2003 she sat in the Chamber of Representatives and from 2004 to 2009 in the Flemish Parliament. In 2009 she joined the Flemish government, with responsibility for the Environment, Nature and Culture. After the 2014 elections, she remained a minister in the Flemish government, but with the responsibilities of Environment, Nature and Agriculture.
